This week's KPR Presents features former U.S. Poet Laureate and Pulitzer Prize-winner Ted Kooser, from a reading sponsored by the University of Kansas Libraries. We'll also hear the collaborative efforts of Kansas Poet Laureate Caryn Mirriam-Goldberg and singer-songwriter Kelley Hunt, in a reading performed at the Lawrence Public Library.

The Waitiki 7's latest is New Sounds of Exotica, a superb collection of tunes that's one part mid-century multi-ethnic hybrid music, one part technicolor tropical dreamscape and a dash of wild jungle birdcalls. The Waitiki 7 takes a new serious spin on exotica with tunes like Voodoo Love, Similau and Bali Ha'i.

Here's a splendid example of early work by Lalo Schifrin, lovingly restored from the Paris sessions of the 1950's featuring Eddie Warner's Orchestra for whom Schifrin arranged, conducted and played piano. This hugely enjoyable album features several original compositions by Schifrin as well as by his mentor Dizzy Gillespie.
