The law bans smoking in restaurants, bars, offices and most other
public places. It specifically exempts state-owned casinos, which the governor called hypocritical. He'd like to see that exemption removed in the future. Health officials estimate that 4,000 Kansans die from smoking-related disease every year and about 300 more because of exposure to secondhand smoke. Email this story Copyright 2010 Associated Press.
