| Item Listing | Panel: No Limit On Contributions to Judge Ouster Campaign Date: March 2, 2010 An ethics commission says Kansas campaign finance rules and contribution limits don't apply to a campaign to oust a state Supreme Court justice. Abortion opponents and others are pursuing a "Fire Beier" campaign against Justice Carol Beier because of opinions she wrote in 2006 and 2008 involving former Attorney General Phill Kline. Beier was appointed to the court in 2003 by Governor Kathleen Sebelius and faces a retention vote in November. Beier recently asked the Kansas Governmental Ethics Commission whether a retention election is covered by the state's Campaign Finance Act. The commission said justices aren't specifically listed in the act. That means people for or against a justice's retention face no contribution limits or reporting requirements.
