| Item Listing | New Home for Big Cats Coming to Garden City Zoo Date: February 24, 2010 The pumas, bobcats and jaguars at the Lee Richardson Zoo in Garden City are closer to getting a more spacious home at the zoo. Supporters of the zoo have raised $605,000 for the Cat Canyon. That is more than the original goal of $600,000, but construction costs have gone up since the project started three years ago. Mary Palmer, executive director of the Friends of the Lee Richardson Zoo, says it's unclear exactly how much will be needed to build Cat Canyon. But she says reaching the original fundraising goal is proof the community supports the idea. Cat Canyon will feature separate yards for the zoo's jaguars, pumas and bobcats. The public will be able to watch the cats in a viewing building with glass windows.
