| Item Listing | Topeka Doctor Indicted on Prescription Charges Date: February 22, 2010 A former psychiatrist at the Veterans Administration hospital in Topeka has pleaded guilty to unlawfully prescribing controlled substances. U-S Attorney Lanny Welch says 58-year-old Ethan Bickelhaupt entered the plea today (MON) to one count of unlawfully distributing controlled substances and one count of unlawfully obtaining controlled substances. Bickelhaupt worked at the VA Medical Center from May 2006 until February 2008. Prosecutors say he issued prescriptions in 2006 to people who weren't patients at the hospital. Those people would then allegedly give Bickelhaupt the drugs for his personal use. Prosecutors say he often prescribed drugs such as Adderall and Tylenol 3 for people to use at parties at his house. He is scheduled to be sentenced May 21.
