Officials from the Kansas Dental Association hope that a new student-loan-repayment program will help ease the shortage of dentists in some rural parts of the state. Doctor Steve Wint says the program will provide three dentists with $50,000 each if they agree to practice in an underserved part of the state and to provide care to low-income Kansans who may not be able to pay their bills. Currently, only about 25 percent of Kansas dentists accept Medicaid patients.

Wint serves on the board of the Delta Dental of Kansas Foundation, which is providing $150,000 to get the program started.
